The day after Obama’s Inauguration I wrote this post about the fact that they skipped the Medal of Honor Inauguration Ball. I am sure I mentioned his treatment of troops in other posts as well in which his actions don’t match his words. I just can’t remember which posts.
Well, I think this plan of his takes the cake. I cannot believe that he thinks that Veterans should use private insurance to pay for their medical care for service related injuries. Also, I cannot believe that he wants to have taxpayers pay for health care for everyone who isn’t working, but can’t make sure his budget covers those who protected this country.
Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance…. Currently, veterans’ private insurance is charged only when they receive health care from the VA for medical issues that are not related to service injuries, like getting the flu.
Charging for service-related injuries would violate “a sacred trust,” Veterans of Foreign Wars spokesman Joe Davis said. Davis said the move would risk private health care for veterans and their families by potentially maxing out benefits paying for costly war injury treatments.
I agree that it would violate “a sacred trust” that veterans deserve to have kept.
Updated on 3/16/2009 to add this link that shows that Obama has put in his budget the amount that they would collect from having veterans use their own insurance for service related injuries, pre-existing conditions. Don’t think that this won’t affect you because your costs will go up to cover these pre-existing conditions. Or worse yet, the insurance companies won’t cover them so the soldiers will have to pay it all out of pocket. Nice way to treat those who put their life at risk to protect us! (I always thought that all their healthcare was covered by the VA and I never had a problem with my tax dollars going to that so I am disappointed to find out that they have to use insurance to cover ANY of their healthcare!)
