So, a guy who borrows his winning slogan of Yes We Can from Bob the Builder. Umm, yes, the cartoon character has inspired people to create an Obama Day. Meetings are already beginning in Topeka Kansas to plan on how to combine Obama Day with the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth.
Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation’s 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.
“Yes We Can” planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald’s restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama’s honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.
I am sure there are laws in place that a person cannot be honored by a national holiday until a certain amount of time after that person’s death. I know that something like that exists for a person’s image to be placed on a stamp. However, my concern is that people are already thinking of this type of thing. So, we need to watch congress very closely to make sure nothing comes of this. Because, if you look back at history, Stalin and Hitler did similar things when they were leaders.
